I bought this to replace a Sanyo juicer I inherited that is probably more than 50 years old. The old unit continues to work like a champ, but I wanted one that had a pulp receptacle rather than collecting the pulp inside the unit. My hope was that I would not have to disassemble the unit between batches. I use a juicer exclusively for berries (usually blackberries and raspberries) to make jellies and with the Sanyo I could only juice 4 cups before I had to do a complete cleaning of the unit, greatly slowing down the process. This new unit seems to work fairly well but I have only done one test run so far. My observations:1. The “1” setting is too slow for soft berries. You don’t get all the juice and it bogs down if when feeding fairly slowly. The “2” or “3” setting is better for this use.2. The “self-cleaning” feature is a gimmick. It sort of works, but only removes about 90% of the pulp stuck in the strainer. It is just as fast or faster to just disassemble and hand clean between batches or when done. I use a kitchen brush under running water as I have always done with my old unit.3. Having the pulp collection container is a real plus, as in theory you can just do a quick empty and keep on working. What I have yet to determine is how often I need to clean the screen before proceeding with more batches of berries.4. The major “flaw” in the design, an issue I do not have with my old Sanyo is that a significant amount of juice remains in the collection area that does not flow out for collection. This may be due to the amount of solids (fine pulp) that I extract (with higher speeds) making the collected material quite thick. With my limited use so far, that means that when I am done I use a small fine brush to collect this material.5. The unit is a bit noisy but maybe that is unavoidable.
