Please understand that I am not a tattoo artist, just someone that wants to print custom tattoo stencils and use them as temporary tattoos. This is perfect for the youngsters in my life as well, as the ink lasts for just a couple days, instead of a week or more like other temporary tattoos. Also a fun alternative to a hand stamp for smaller-scale events.Anyhow, the Memoqueen TP31 Tattoo Transfer Printer is exactly what I’d hoped for. A thermal printer that uses custom sheets to produce a skin-safe tattoo stencil of approximately 3×5 inches in size. The provided stencil paper has a deep blue, almost purple, ink. I do not know if other colors are available. The print quality is great. Tiny details come through, though it’s what I’ll call a Boolean printer, meaning it doesn’t provide variable ink levels to differentiate dark lines from lighter lines, it simply either does or does not cook the ink onto the transfer paper at each given ‘pixel’ of resolution. That is to say that “shading” is done by dots, not by ink levels. Have I confused you yet – think of it this way, you either put thin lines or thick lines, but everything is done in solid ink.Your best results will come from simplified line art.I’ve been playing with a little dinosaur design, it prints well at most sizes, which is impressive. Thing is, once I apply to skin, the tiny details tend to blur together. This is most evident in the dino’s mouth and eye, his teeth and pupil simply disappear thanks to the large amounts of ink surrounding them. If I simplify that into line art without a shaded-in section, it will work much better.I can’t wrap this up without mentioning the print failure rate. I found that if I pushed through multiple prints without waiting at least 2 minutes between, and I print using the Heavy line setting, then the paper would stick and jam. It is these specific conditions that create the problem, no other hiccups have been detected. Being that the instructions tell you not to print too quickly, to let it cool down between jobs, I will not fault the device. The battery is supposed to last for up to 320 prints. I think that’s amazing. I’ve only pushed through about 20 prints, and there’s no indication of battery drop yet. Finally, the app has a decent selection of free designs, a good AI image generator, and decent editing tools to turn your images into viable designs. There’s a bit of a learning curve, but it’s easy enough. I really like that the print process guides you through setting up the paper, I keep forgetting which way is supposed to go up.Last thing of note, I can’t seem to get it to print all the way to the top. The end with the glue that holds all the sheets together is what gets pulled into the roller in the printer. It pulls just enough that you are left with almost an inch of unused paper. Maybe I’m just doing something wrong. Again, not a problem, just an observation. In the end, I’m having a ton of fun with this stencil printer, and I can think of more than a few people in my world that will enjoy the results of my prints.
